A newly landscaped front yard with a rock bed, mulch, shrubs and fresh sod

Good landscaping is mostly about doing the practical things well: clean bed edges, the right base under the rock, sod laid on prepared soil instead of dumped on clay, and plants that can handle minus 30. We handle front and back yard landscaping for homes across Winnipeg, from a single new bed to a full yard reset.

Tell us what you want the yard to do, whether that is curb appeal, less mowing, somewhere for the kids, or fewer weeds, and we will put together a plan and a price that fits it.

What we build

  • Garden beds with landscape fabric and clean edging
  • River rock, decorative stone and mulch
  • Sod removal, soil prep and new sod
  • Shrubs, perennials and small trees planted
  • Small paver paths and pads

Good to pair with

  • Grading fixes before the new sod goes down
  • Fences and decks built in the same season
  • Regular lawn cutting once it is established

Landscaping that suits the prairie

Plants from a coastal catalogue do not survive here. We plant for zone 3: hardy shrubs, tough perennials and trees that shrug off the winter. Rock beds go down over a proper base and fabric so they are not full of weeds by August. Sod goes onto loosened, amended soil so the roots can get into it instead of sliding around on top of the clay.

In the newer subdivisions, the builder's landscaping is often thin sod over compacted fill that has settled and now drains towards the house. Fixing the grade first, then landscaping, is the right order. We do both.

Landscaping: questions we get asked

Do you do landscape design?
We do practical planning: a sketch of the beds, plants and materials with a price attached. For a large, formal design project we will tell you if it needs a landscape architect.
When is the best time to lay sod in Winnipeg?
Late spring or late summer into early fall, when it is not scorching and the sod can root before the heat or the freeze. We will not lay sod in a July heat wave just to hit a date.
Can you replace my lawn with rock or low maintenance planting?
Yes. Reducing lawn area with rock beds, mulch and hardy plantings is one of the most common requests we get, and it cuts the weekly work down a lot.
Do you remove the old material?
Yes. Old sod, soil, rock and plant material all leaves with us.
